How do I play?
Drag the stars until no two ropes cross. The constellation lights up when the last crossing is gone.
Why won't a star move where I want it to?
The ropes are solid. A star can't be pulled through a rope — you have to find the way around it, or slip underneath. A rope lying over all of your star's ropes lets the star dive under it; a rope lying under them lets the star slide over. A rope sandwiched between them is a wall. Ropes also have real slack, so dragging one star can drag its neighbors along.
What is the star that won't budge?
That's Polaris (from level 9). It is pinned to the sky and never moves — untangle the constellation around it. The Iron Chain (from level 14) is a rope nothing can pass; you always have to go around it.
I'm completely stuck.
Wait a few seconds and a hint appears: a ring around the star to move, then the route to take and a ghost of where it lands. If a board becomes so knotted that even our solver can't finish it, the hint says so — restart the level from the ⚙ menu; you'll lose nothing but that level's moves.
How does star scoring work?
Each level has a par number of moves. Solve it at or under par for three stars. Solving several levels in a row without wasting moves builds a flawless streak.
What happens after level 20?
The Star Field opens — endless procedurally generated skies that keep getting bigger. Every one of them is guaranteed solvable.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
Neither. There is no sign-in, and the game plays fully offline.
How do I reset my progress?
Uninstalling the app clears all data stored on your device. See Data Retention & Deletion in our Privacy Policy for anything held off-device.
Does the app cost anything?
No — Untangle: Night Sky is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
